ProDGNE at the EJP RD final conference in Bari, Italy

On 27-28 May Michela Onali and Fabrizio Pertusati joined the EJP RD Final conference in Bari, Italy to present ProDGNE in two different sessions on building research capacity through training and mentoring and impact of EJP RD funding.

This was a fantastic opportunity to meet Rare Diseases leading experts, professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world and present ProDGNE as a successful example of a project funded within a EJP RD funding scheme through patient leadership and transnational collaboration.

Between 2019 – 2024, the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases (EJP RD)  has brought together over 130 institutions (including 24 ERNs)  from 35 countries:

  • 26 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Slovakia, Slovenia)
  • 7 associated (Armenia, Georgia, Israel, Norway, Serbia, Switzerland, Türkiye)
  • Uk & Canada
  1. To improve the integration, the efficacy, and the social impact of research on Rare Diseases through the development, demonstration and promotion of Europe/world-wide sharing of research and clinical data, materials, processes, knowledge and know-how
  2. To implement and develop an efficient model of financial support for all types of research on Rare Diseases

EJP RD was possible thanks to a research partnership launched by the European Commission with a budget of €55 million from EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.
