UCIBIO-NOVA

SUBJECT

This privacy notice is applicable to the personal data processing of individuals and service users who come in contact with the ProDGNE website.

WHO ARE WE?

The personal data will be collected and processed by the Research Unit on Applied Molecular Biosciences of NOVA Faculty of Science and Technology (UCIBIO-NOVA), which shall be considered the data controller. It shall therefore be responsible for the processing of data, according to all the definitions and provisions present in the GDPR.

WHAT PERSONAL DATA IS COLLECTED AND PROCESSED?

In order to comply with the principle of data minimization, enshrined in the GDPR, UCIBIO-NOVA will only collect and process the strictly necessary data for the pursuit of its purposes.

UCIBIO-NOVA might collect and process the following personal data:

  • Full Name
  • Email

 

WHAT IS THE LEGAL BASIS FOR THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA?

When the collecting and processing of personal data is required, UCIBIO-NOVA will have to resort to one of the following legal basis:

  • Compliance with legal obligations;
  • Execution of a contract or pre-contractual obligations;
  • Legitimate interest of the controller that justifies the processing, preceded by a data protection impact assessment;
  • Public interest or in the exercise of public authority.

When none of these are fit to justify the processing, UCIBIO-NOVA will resort to the consent of the data subject.

WHAT ARE THE PURPOSES OF THE PROCESSING CARRIED OUT BY ProDGNE?

UCIBIO-NOVA has a strategic priority in ProDGNE science communication and dissemination of results. For that objective, it needs to process personal data for that purpose, namely to:

a)      To contact and communicate with you

b)       For internal record keeping and administrative purposes

UCIBIO-NOVA will only process personal data for the purposes for which it was collected.

TO WHOM DO WE TRANSFER PERSONAL DATA?

UCIBIO-NOVA will not transfer personal data to third parties. 

HOW LONG IS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION RETAINED?

In order to comply with the storage limitation principle and keep your personal data for no more than the time required to fulfill the purposes described in this privacy policy, UCIBIO-NOVA will establish time limits for erasure or periodic review. In certain cases, personal data might be stored for longer periods, insofar as the personal data is to be processed for scientific or historical research or statistical purposes.

WHAT SECURITY MEASURES HAVE BEEN ADOPTED IN ORDER TO PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL DATA?

Information security and data protection are priorities for UCIBIO-NOVA. For this reason, UCIBIO-NOVA has implemented technical and organisational measures to protect personal data from possible data breaches and other cyber-incidents.

In particular, the following measures will be taken:

  • Access is limited to specific employees, in a need-to-know basis, according to their functions;
  • Data is stored in servers that offer security measures such as encryption, access control, traceable logs and backups;
  • Period reviews of security systems and policies, in order to assure that personal data is secure;
  • Monitoring of technological infrastructures in order to prevent and detect irregularities.

IS YOUR DATA TRANSFERRED OUTSIDE OF THE EUROPEAN UNION OR TO INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS?

No. Your personal data will not be transferred outside of the European Union. 

WHAT ARE THE RIGHTS OF THE DATA SUBJECT?

The data subject can, at any time, exercise his rights to information, access, rectification, erasure, to object as well as the right to withdraw his consent.

It is also possible to contact the NOVA-FCT Data Protection Officer at dpo@unl.pt.

In certain cases, the request might not be complied with (for instance, due to legal obligations). In any case, the data subject will be informed of the measures taken, within one month counting from the moment the request was submitted. 

The data subject also has the right to submit a complaint to the Portuguese National Data Protection Commission at https://www.cnpd.pt/.

This page should be consulted regularly by the data subjects, as this privacy note may be updated.
