Paula Videira

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR WITH HABILITATION 

Dr Paula Videira is the leader of the Glycoimmunology Research Group at UCIBIO and holds the position of Associate Professor with Habilitation in Immunology and Glycobiology at the Life Sciences Department of NOVA School of Science and Technology, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (NOVA-FCT) in Portugal. Dr. Videira’s career is characterized by a profound dedication to understanding the complex roles of glycans in diseases and translating Glycosciences into groundbreaking therapies.. 

Dr.Videira has fostered a robust network, coordinating 18 projects such as ProDGNE and serving as a visiting professor at institutions including Bologna University (IT, 2007), Harvard Medical School as an EMBO fellow (US, 2011). 

Dr.Videira’s commitment to advancing knowledge extends to the co-founding and directing CDG&Allies, a patient-centric global network for rare diseases of glycosylation.

In 2019, she co-founded CellmAbs, a successful biopharmaceutical developing immunotherapies for oncology.  Dr. Videira belongs to esteemed scientific committees such as RD-Portugal and the scientific board of the Slovakia Academy of Sciences. 

Role in ProDGNE

The role of the Videira lab within ProDGNE is to coordinate the projects together with PAO and lead work packages 2 and 6. The main goal is to develop innovative therapies by testing the efficacy and safety of promising lead compounds. Her group applies in vitro studies with patient-derived cells, biochemical and immune assays, cell phenotyping, sialic acid, glycan profiling, and testing in animal models. She will also liaise with industrial stakeholders, clinicians, and PAOs in articulation with CDG&Allies.
