Pierluigi Caboni

FULL PROFESSOR

Pierluigi Caboni is a full professor of food chemistry at the University of Cagliari in Sardinia, Italy (UNICA), leader of the metabolomics and lipidomics group since 2005 and director of the high-resolution mass spectrometry laboratory. His research activity focuses on various -omic sciences such as metabolomics and lipidomics, food analysis and drug metabolism. He is also founder of Toxmed (https://toxmed.it), university spin-off which provides analytical, metabolomic and lipidomic services to third parties.

Pierluigi Caboni has worked on the development of innovative mass spectrometry methods for the quantification and characterization of biomarkers on various biological matrices such as human cells, plasma, feces, urine, bronchoalveolar fluids.

The Caboni team has extensive experience in studying metabolomic alterations by identifying the molecular mechanisms behind several human disorders.

Role in ProDGNE

Pierluigi Caboni leads the WP5 work on biomolecular disease marker discovery by means of omics techniques (metabolomics and lipidomics through the application of advanced spectrometric techniques). The team at UNICA is  further involved in the WP1 task of prodrug formulation.
